Next: an idea that uses real data

78 of our 239 IA ideas have a “Real data for this idea” box naming the primary source, the Our World in Data chart where one fits, and the licence limits. When you have your data, fit a model step by step with IA modelling or test it with IA statistics.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I find free data for a Maths IA?

Start with the ranked list on this page: 36 free sources, from Our World in Data and the World Bank to the ONS, NASA, NOAA and OpenStreetMap, each with its licence and the IA ideas that use it. All of them can be used without paying.

Can I use Our World in Data in my IA?

Yes. Charts and data made by Our World in Data are CC BY 4.0, so you can use them with credit. Each chart names its original source: cite both, for example: Our World in Data, ‘Population’, CC BY 4.0. Original source: UN World Population Prospects (2024).

What is the difference between this page and the IA data bank?

The data bank holds 9 small datasets we have cleaned and host under open licences, ready to open in the grapher. This page only links to other people's data so you can find more: we never copy it.

Do I need to collect my own data instead?

No. Published data is fine if you ask a precise question and justify every choice you make with it. Collecting some of your own data, or comparing published data with your own context, can make personal engagement easier to show.
