How we write and check the questions
Every passage and question is our own: none is copied or paraphrased from College Board, Bluebook or Khan Academy material. Each question was answered a second time, independently and without the key, and any disagreement was fixed before publishing. The SAT tests the conventions of American English (spelling, punctuation inside quotation marks, collective nouns as singular). Our practice questions follow the test; the rest of this site uses British spelling.
The SAT has two sections: for the other, see SAT Math.
FAQ
How is the digital SAT Reading and Writing section structured?
Two modules of 27 questions, 32 minutes each. Each question has its own short passage (or pair of passages) and four options. Two questions per module are unscored. The second module is harder or easier depending on how you did in the first.
What question types are on SAT Reading and Writing?
Four content domains: Craft and Structure, Information and Ideas, Standard English Conventions, Expression of Ideas. Within them: words in context, text structure and purpose, cross-text connections, central ideas and details, command of evidence: textual, command of evidence: quantitative, inferences, boundaries, form, structure, and sense, rhetorical synthesis, transitions.
Are these official SAT questions?
No. Every passage and question here is our own, written to the format of the digital SAT. For official practice tests use College Board's Bluebook app; our official-practice page links to it and to Khan Academy.
Why do the questions use American spelling?
The SAT tests the conventions of American English, so our practice passages and grammar questions follow them. The rest of this site uses British spelling.
