Maths EE self-check and feedback

Check your essay against each criterion for free, then, when you want a second pair of eyes, get AI feedback on one section against one criterion. Feedback only: nothing here writes or rewrites your essay.

Provisional criteria. The criteria below are from the new Extended essay guide as we understand it and are being checked against the published guide.

Answer honestly with your draft open. Your answers stay in this browser; nothing is sent. This is a self-check, not a mark.

Criterion A: Framework for the essay

My research question is a question, names the mathematics and is narrow enough for the word limit.
My introduction says how I will answer the question (the method), not just why it interests me.
Each section has one job, and the order follows my argument.
Notation is defined before use and stays consistent; equations and figures are numbered and referred to.
Every source I used is cited in the text and listed in the bibliography in one consistent style.

Criterion B: Knowledge and understanding

Every definition and theorem I use is stated correctly, with its conditions.
I explain new mathematics in my own words and illustrate it with my own worked examples.
My sources for the mathematics are reliable and cited where I use them.
I could explain every step of every proof or derivation in the essay if my supervisor asked.

Criterion C: Analysis and line of argument

My essay develops mathematics (derivations, proofs, analysed examples), it does not just describe it.
Every step is justified, and a reader can follow the reasoning.
Each section moves my argument towards answering the research question.
I have checked my key results, for example with special cases or a second method.

Criterion D: Discussion and evaluation

I discuss what my results mean for the research question, including their limits.
I evaluate my method: assumptions, the range where results hold and possible errors.
My conclusion answers the research question and claims no more than the essay shows.
I separate what I proved from what I only observed or computed.
I suggest specific further questions that follow from my findings.

Criterion E: Reflection

I have dated notes from each reflection session with my supervisor.
My reflection describes how my thinking or methods changed, with specific examples.
I explain what I learned about myself as a learner, not just about the topic.
My reflective statement is within the word limit and written in my own words.
