The maths
Exam questions start with a command word that tells you what to do. Estimate: Give an approximate value, usually by rounding the numbers first. Prove: Give a complete argument that works in every case, not just examples. Plot: Mark points accurately on a grid, then join them if asked. Solve: Find every value of the unknown that makes the statement true. Simplify: Write it in its shortest equivalent form. Describe: Say in words what you see, such as the trend in a graph. General meanings in our own words. Your exam board publishes its own list of command words: check its exact definitions.
