What is CAT4?
The Cognitive Abilities Test (CAT4) is a UK-standardised test of reasoning ability. Your school runs it every year or two. You get a Standard Age Score (SAS) between roughly 60 and 141 across four batteries:
• Verbal — reasoning with language.
• Quantitative — reasoning with numbers.
• Non-verbal — reasoning with shapes and patterns.
• Spatial — reasoning with 3-D mental rotation.
The Mean SAS is the simple average. 100 is the middle of the population — half of students in the UK score below that, half above. The bands you see on your card use GL Education's own scale.
What is my target grade?
Your target is your teacher's honest, ambitious prediction for your final IB grade in each course you're taking. It's based on your CAT4, your prior Math grade, and how you're doing in class. It's meant to stretch you, not set a ceiling — plenty of students beat their target.
