Where IB Maths students lose marks — and exactly what to do about it

The most common ways IB Maths students lose marks (rounding, “show that”, GDC use, hypothesis tests, induction) with a fix and a worked example for each, plus what to focus on for May 2027. Based on the IB’s own subject reports from May 2024 to November 2025, summarised in our own words.

The notes follow you as you revise: a short note under practice questions and inside mark schemes, a flag in your AI marking when you make one of these mistakes, and the hot-spots you haven’t mastered yet in “What to do next”.

Questions students and parents ask

Which IB Maths course should I pick, AI or AA?

Your school will usually have chosen for you. AA (Analysis & Approaches) is more algebraic, with more proof and calculus, and suits most STEM degrees. AI (Applications & Interpretation) is more applied, with more modelling, statistics and calculator work. AA vs AI in detail.

What's the difference between SL and HL in IB Maths?

HL covers everything in SL plus extra topics and a third paper, a 60-minute problem-solving Paper 3. SL vs HL in detail.

What can I use for free on IB Math Revision?

The 5-minute check, the question of the day, formula booklets, notes, the syllabus checklist, Unit 0 and classroom games are free. Every new account also gets 7 days of full access to the questions and mark schemes, no card needed, with 10 AI-marked answers.

Should I choose Essentials or Pro?

Essentials (€49 a year or €5 a month) gives you every question and mark scheme, with video walkthroughs on request, and you mark your own work. Pro (€149 a year or €15 a month) adds AI marking of your handwritten working, the AI tutor and AI IA reviews. You can start on Essentials and upgrade later.

Can I switch IB Maths course later?

Yes, at no cost. Every plan includes all four courses. The full list of what each plan includes is on What's included.

What's the IB Math Revision refund policy?

You can cancel any time. If you're not satisfied, email us within 14 days of buying and you get a full refund, even if you've used the site. If something on the site doesn't work for you and we can't fix it, you get a refund within 30 days. Details for every product are on the refund policy page.

Who writes the questions, and how are they checked?

Every question and mark scheme is written or reviewed by Pete Bromfield, an IB examiner. Each answer is then independently re-solved before it's published, and any student can report a problem from the question itself.

I'm starting DP1. Where should I begin?

Start with Unit 0, which is free and covers the GCSE, IGCSE and MYP skills every DP course assumes. Then take the 5-minute check for your course.

Do you offer IB Maths school licences?

Yes. School Essentials is €490 a year for 40 students, School Pro €1,290 a year for 100 students with AI marking, and School Platinum €2,490 a year for unlimited students. Students join with a class code; up to 10 teachers per licence. School licences and a free demo. Schools with limited funding can apply for a discount.

Is using the AI IA feedback academically honest?

Yes, if you follow the rules: the draft stays your own work, you don't paste AI wording into it, and you declare AI use if your school or the IB requires it. See the academic-honesty terms.
